When a Story takes a New Direction!

The AE So currently I am working on The Asexual Equation and I had it sussed the story was sorted out, everything was fine then the main character started to change the plot.

This story started simply because I wanted to write from an asexual point of view, Jake Logan is probably my most confidence and most accessible asexual so I started on him.

Jake has an identical twin, Adam who likes to touch himself excessively, has an older brother, Noah who is gay and has moved in with his long-term boyfriend and a partially deaf best friend, Harvey who is fascinating by the human body and is studying to become a biologist.

Jake also suffers from Anxiety disorder, some days he feels claustrophobic, some days he has full on panic attacks where the walls are closing in and his life becomes like Indiana Jones. Jake also is terribly shy, he has one friend because he just won’t talk to people.

So Jake Logan’s plot was simple, his biologist best friend was doing an experiment on him to find out about his Asexuality find out why him and his genetically identical twin where not completely identical, find out for sure that his anxiety disorder is not connected to his asexuality, and find out for sure if his dad leaving when he was two is the real cause of Jake’s anxiety.

His story has now become a journey, because although it started simple it has now spiralled and become complex and intriguing.

Stay Tuned.

The Story of Paperhouse!

paperhouse 2 So Paperhouse was published today 19th September (after a month-long wait!). But there’s far more too Paperhouse than meets the eye.

Paperhouse’s story began with Superstar, weird I know but that’s where it began on the 23rd July 2012! It started with Mr Ryan Mitchell who on the 23rd July was just a tender 16 year old, he was a brand new character, he was just two names I’d put together then decided that Superstar was from his point of view.

A year later Gay Brigade began to be formed which was essentially the prequel to Superstar, the story of how Ryan got to the competition. Whilst Gay Brigade was in process I began thinking about Ryan’s dad’s story because he’s only ever had his mum(my strongest female character Catherine Mitchell).

It’d always been apparent to me what’d happened to Ryan’s dad but I didn’t want to just narrow it down and put it into a monologue from Ryan because that so wouldn’t be right. So instead, after talking it over with the number 2 who reads everything Paperhouse started to be formed. Paperhouse shows the story of the year Catherine was pregnant with Ryan, it shows how her friendship with Pete started, it shows Michael’s relationship with Pete and also shows Michael’s relationship with Catherine.

Loose in a Book Shop!

2014-09-17 13.53.19I met up with a friend today and he suggested we meet in Waterstone’s (a book store). He was 35 minutes late, so I brought two books!

I mean really, leaving an author in a book shop (with a bit of disposal money in their account) is never really a good combo! Finding a table that was buy one get one for half price doesn’t particularly help.

So I brought two YA novels and called it research.

Don’t leave me alone in a book shop.

Paperhouse!

Paperhouse goes on general sale on the 19th September!
paperhouse 2

But why wait when you can pre-order the Kindle Version HERE

The thing with paperhouses are that once they’re wet they tear and when it’s windy they fall down.
The year is 1995, Take That are number one, double denim is huge and Beanie Babies are the latest fad but Michael’s world gets thrown into chaos when his date leads to the bedroom and even worst the maternity ward but that’s the least of his worries since a childhood friend has come back into his life, come back and come back with a bang, now nineteen year old Michael really has to make a decision Catherine or Pete?

Anxious Asexual.

The AE The Asexual Equation which will be available the 27th October.

The Asexual Equation is the story of Jake Logan (Brother of Noah Logan who is in Sex Education, Released and Gay Brigade: Callum and Noah).

Jake knows he’s asexual and has since he was 13, it’s something that once he heard what Asexuality was he knew it as what he was and he’s far from ashamed about it, Jake would stand on the top of his school and shout it all over his city but due to chronic shyness that might be a tiny bit impossible.

Because although Jake is asexual he also suffers from severe anxiety. Jake’s anxiety became severe when he was 13 when Noah moved out their house and is still pretty severe four years later.

Now as both Jake and his best friend Harvey begin to think about what they might actually want to do with their lives, Jake’s anxiety and asexuality have never been more interesting as Harvey would like to be a biologist and to begin working in a University lab Harvey needs to successfully complete an experiment and who else is a biologist best friend going to use but his anxious asexual best friend.

His hypothesis; That Jake Logan’s Asexuality has nothing to do with his Anxiety.

Through Harvey’s experiment Jake begins to find out things that he never thought he would, things from his childhood, things from when they lived in Essex and most importantly the cause of his anxiety.
