Finding more new places to write

image

Its quite well known that I love finding new places to write, and it’s probably quite obvious that I have a love for water also.

For the last 10 days I have been expeditions around Hungary and it has had its highs and it’s lows but I did it, I’ve reached the last day, and what I’ve found whilst traveling not around Hungary is, for a land locked country, a lot of water. Fountains, water displays and even a full grown lake, (one of the biggest in Europe).

Ive become aware that water inspires me like nothing else. I find something so relaxing and so carefree about water, that I find it’s easy to write by. We were told we had to keep a journal as we traveled around the country, something I find rather difficult to do, I write fiction what more do you want me to say! I have attempted to keep up with my journal but a scene or two have been peeking through and a whole lot of inspiration has been brewing to write when I return to the UK.

Whilst here, I’ve read 3 books, Grand and Humble (Brent Hartinger), Angel Kermony and Sydney’s Spaceship (Jo Banks). I plan to read Paper Towns (John Green) on the flight home, and hopefully 3 Truths and a Lie (Brent Hartinger) as well. Each of these have helped with the inspiration of course. I unfortunately managed to break my kindle around day 5 but, I fought on reading them on the kindle app!

This photo was taken on the island between Buda and Pest, Margitsziget, where there is a regular fountain show with music and very talented water! I think I’ve decided this is my favourite place in Hungary, and definitely my favourite place to write.

2015…

Well, I guess it’s time for the reflective post on the last year.

2015 was definitely one of the most conflicting years for my writing, there were definite high moments, but some very definite low moments, and I think my blog was with me throughout the majority of them.

But first, the stats;

  • I released my first book of 2015 on Valentine’s Day, Prince’s Tale.
  • Following that I released 7 books between March and October.
  • My Black Friday sale placed 6 of my books in the top 25 list on Amazon.
  • My Black Friday sale had a record number of 700+ downloads.
  • My most popular book in 2015 was All is Equal, since it’s release in August there has been 65 paid sales.

Now, for the year;

The year started with Prince’s Tale going into pre-order, since then there has been many deadlines set, and many met, a few delayed. My most exciting release of the year was Basorexia, my story I wrote with 3 co-writers Finlay Harper (who is releasing his first novel in 2016), J.D. Barkley and K. Tealin, as the story was in production for 2 years it was definitely the most anticipated release, and as it began to happen definitely the most exciting, especially being able to publish it with 3 authors who had never published a book before.

But, with highs, unfortunately comes lows, and with a more public view, comes negativity, when I look at my sale numbers I realise the negativity is coming from about 5% of my readers, but, as always negative comments stay with you more than compliments. Very soon the negativity began to get to me, and unfortunately the only thing I could think to do was declare a publishing break. The break was enforced after the release of my latest book, On Tour, and so far the break is helping me focus on past books and future plans without the idea of any deadlines.

I love to write, and I especially love to share my writing, I want people to fall in love with my boys like I do, and I want people to be apart of their worlds. Their stories. Unfortunately right now, I’m feeling a bit hesitant to share anything new just yet, I’ve always been aware there is problems in my writing, but what indie author doesn’t have problems in their writing. I am looking to hopefully having some of those problems ironed out, and am actually looking forward to the things I have planned for early 2016.

So, as you can tell 2015 was definitely a mixed bag for me, but I come out of it with the knowledge of what I need to do to improve, and won a slightly rose tinted optimism.

Where to next…

Well, here it is, what I’m doing next, my big announcement.

So, I’d been doing a lot of thinking and have finally come to a decision, On Tour, which was released on November 14th, will be my last book for at least a year.

I love to write. I love to share what I write with other people. I love to create, but recently I’ve been finding it to be more of a negative experience unfortunately, which I plan to change.

I am going to take a year out and not release any new pieces of work, but, I will be rereleasing older works, some with new covers.

It has been a very big decision of mine, and it’s unfortunate, but I guess it’s needed.

I will be keeping my blog active of course, and my Facebook page.

How To Be a Normal Person – TJ Klune

Okay, so I’m struggling with this. I can’t decide whether to actually buy it or not. I am yet to be brave enough, bite the bullet and purchase this book.

It is wrote by one of my favourite author is; TJ Klune, who has wrote some fantastic books, my favourite, of course being Bear, Otter and the Kid. But, this book, almost promises to be different.

Here is the blurb of How to be a Normal Person by TJ Klune;

Gustavo Tiberius is not normal. He knows this. Everyone in his small town of Abby, Oregon, knows this. He reads encyclopedias every night before bed. He has a pet ferret called Harry S. Truman. He owns a video rental store that no one goes to. His closest friends are a lady named Lottie with drag queen hair and a trio of elderly Vespa riders known as the We Three Queens.

Gus is not normal. And he’s fine with that. All he wants is to be left alone.
Until Casey, an asexual stoner hipster and the newest employee at Lottie’s Lattes, enters his life. For some reason, Casey thinks Gus is the greatest thing ever. And maybe Gus is starting to think the same thing about Casey, even if Casey is obsessive about Instagramming his food.
But Gus isn’t normal and Casey deserves someone who can be. Suddenly wanting to be that someone, Gus steps out of his comfort zone and plans to become the most normal person ever.
After all, what could possibly go wrong?

I think,  I’ve been a little apprehensive of this book since I heard about its development, sure there was this initial excitement, someone so creditable was writing an asexual book, after, recently coming out as asexual himself (Read here). Then, it hit me, TJ is a gay romance author, usually at least, he is a fabulous gay romance author, in all aspects, and I’m worried, I think personally, that this book will be too different.

But, as I said, I’m unsure, I cannot work out whether to actually read this book or keep with the classic TJ.

OF COURSE  I am beyond thrilled that there is more asexual fiction coming about, that more people will read asexual fiction, and will be excited by asexual fiction, but I still cannot stop myself, as an asexual, worrying about asexual fiction.
So, what should I do?

Read or Miss?

It’s Asexual Awareness Week

And you know what that means!

That I may spam with asexual stuff.

That there may be flash sales of my asexual books.

That I will make you aware of asexuals.

An Update!

So, basically, the last few weeks my  laptop has decided it doesn’t want to work properly anymore, and will not let me get onto my blog, not even to view it.
So, whilst I can blog, I shall line up some posts so I don’t just disappear from WordPress!

Well, Summer is nearly over.

Well, actually we could actually say we’re well into September, and autumn but, I believe today might be the last ‘sit outside in a t-shirt‘ day for a while.

But, summer is alas nearly over, I have turned 20, which officially means that we’ve passed the middle of the summer, and everyone’s back at school and work.

It was an enjoyable summer, but, I also spent a lot of time thinking this summer. I got myself an editor, which is a big yaay! and I finally released Basorexia, the book that has been in waiting for two years.

I have, however now made my decision, when On Tour is released on the 6th October, that will be the last RJ book in 2015. It will also, probably be the last book until at least 2017. I am taking a break, I will be gone. Sure, I will still blog, I’ll still be on social media, I’ll keep everyone updated, but there will be no publications until 2017, which sounds a lifetime away, but really as we’re already in September 2015, we’ll be there before we know it.

All my previous books will go through an edit, and a rebrand.

More will be revealed in due course.
