One Year On…

So, my one year publishing holiday is coming very quickly to an end. I have just sent my first 2016 book to Kindle Scout, to be considered for a publishing contract, I will be informed in a few days of its campaign date, but, I’m more amazed that it has already been an year.

Last year, I published On Tour and declared that my last for the next 365 days. I’m more impressed with the fact that I’ve kept to it. I started the year off with an intention, to reedit all my books (work in progress!), to rewrite Gay Brigade and Casey (bigger work in progress!), and to stop taking low starred reviews so harshly (COMPLETED!). Instead, I have decided on, and finished That Awkward Age, which will be released in November, I have started a 4-part drag series ‘The Rose Quartet’, which includes Rose, Jasmine, Cherry Blossom and Daisy and I came up with a completely new idea, the one that will be published this month Rainbow Connection.

More information will follow for each of these books.

#RJWave2

So, whilst redesigning covers and rewriting books, I thought something else of mine deserved a redesign.

I have redesigned my website – www.rjseeley.wix.com/writer

My newly designed website (new colour and all) is focusing more on, Don’t Judge a Book by it’s Cover. Read the blurb before seeing the cover, and I’m quite excited by the concept.

Also, all my brand new covers are available online too, so take a look to find out about new releases!

Book Announcement 5!!

Now, for my biggest series, The Gay Brigade. All covers (Callum and Noah, Ryan and Daniel and Darren and Luke) will be having an update/clean-up and will look sharper and have more of a finish to them, whilst also having the inside of the books edited to.

But, the orginial, Gay Brigade: 1 will be having a complete rebrand. The cover will be changed (As shown above), and also the story. The orginial Gay Brigade will not be available for sale very soon, and the NEW Gay Brigade, NEW story, NEW idea, NEW cover, will take it’s place.

Look out for the Gay Brigade updates!

What is with the Gay Brigade?

header

To some people they may take it reading the Gay Brigade and feel that maybe that there is a lack of story-line that random scenes just keep happening. And that is the point.

The Gay Brigade takes a year of their lives and recounts day to day activities, sure in all three of the later books something massive happens, dare I say a plot twist but these are regular guys, (Boys? Men?) with regular lives and that’s what I like about the series, it’s what I enjoyed, I could sit and write them just talking whilst getting into bed, there didn’t have to be a huge fight, there didn’t have to be a heated exchange of words, all it needed was the two boyfriends/husbands, talking and getting into bed. Because that’s what real people do and I wanted to make these 6 guys (and 2 kids) as real as it was possible.

Sure there’s a break-in, a nude picture leak and a car accident but they still live normal lives (with the exception of minor celebrities Dyan!)

I love the Gay Brigade it holds a place in my heart and always will! I hope you do to.

The End of a Series

END OF A SERIES

So that is it. I have reached the end of a series. This series has been about 4 years in writing and has sprouted many singular books alongside the original 4-part series. I have grown to love these characters, they mean a lot to me and I love finding new things for them to do or new ways to get them involved.

Now as we are nearing it’s end it’s actually beginning to hit home, that it’s the end of this series, my characters have pretty much grown up and there’s no more stories left for them, no more things that need explaining no more mysteries to solve

So I bid a farewell to the Gay Brigade. I will miss you
R.J.
The last book in the series is due out the 29th May.

Let’s Talk about Cucumber…

Cucumber-Channel4The new Channel 4, E4 and 4oD series written by the brilliant Russell T Davies. Of course when this began it was pitched as an LGBT show based in Manchester and of course I had my reservations, I feared RTD was trying to recreate Queer as Folk (RTD’s 1999 series) but after I’d watched the first episode it became clear that he wasn’t, this was just also based in Manchester.

We’re currently 6 episodes in and until last nights episode (26th February) it was a little flat, sure it was enjoyable there were some brilliant plots, some great lines and some great characters.

But last night, all kinds exploded. RTD knows when to throw in a wild plot twist (which I already knew from continuous 2005 – 2010 Doctor Who watching). Last nights episode shocked from the beginning giving the information that a central character was going to die, this made you instantly begin to anticipate what would happen, when would it happen, how it would happen, we then had a reasonably pleasant look at this characters life, seeing from his birth to the day we were at and by the time we’d gotten to that bit the information that he was going to die was gone, it’d just been forgotten.

Throughout the 6 episodes of the series we’ve seen many characters come and go, we’ve seen many characters develop and we’ve formed opinions on characters, whether we like them, whether we dislike them and there was a certain character I disliked from the off, I thought he was a bit of, to put it lightly, a prick tease and was reasonably wary of him, last night that wariness flew off the scale.

I found Episode 6 of Cucumber chilling and frightening and a harsh reality was flung from the screen right at me as I sat and I watched it. It was terrifying as, I am just about reaching my twenties, I never ever really experienced a truly homophobic nation but Cucumber made me realise, made me remember that unfortunately the nation is still reasonably homophobic and that is terrifying, that there are people living day after day hating others because of their sexual ordination and that ‘Gay Panic’ is still around – I first heard about that two years ago whilst putting on a production of the Laramie Project and even then I couldn’t believe it.

If you haven’t already I truly recommend Cucumber, Banana and Tofu. As each episode is a fantastic piece of television and writing whilst through brilliant actors performances, the stories and characters feel so real and so true that you cannot help but get drawn in.

Bravo RTD!

Character names have been left out this post to avoid spoilers.
